BRETT SCHRIER is an accomplished composer, music director, and vocal coach in New York City. He always knew his life would be dedicated to the artistic world. His earliest memories include sitting at the piano, singing, and dreaming of the day he would earn his living doing what he loves.
After a childhood spent performing, Brett attended The Boston Conservatory, where he pioneered a program and graduated with an individualized degree in Music Direction for the Musical Theatre. Since graduation, Brett has worked in music and theatre venues across the world.
As one of New York's "most talented upcoming writers," Brett has written and developed three full-length musicals. His first, Take Two! The Musical! earned rave reviews during a World Premiere Production at Northern Stage. He also composed the original score for the stage adaptation of Mr. Popper's Penguins, which is licensed by Plays For Young Audiences, and produced by multiple companies around the world. His newest project, Time Between Us, won Critic's Pick Award in the New York Musical Theatre Festival, premiered regionally at Serenbe Playhouse, and is currently in development for an Off-Broadway run. Brett wrote the music, book, & lyrics for Time Between Us, which is being called 'one of the most thought-provoking, cutting edge pieces of musical theatre this decade.'
Brett's musical directing/conducting credits include: I Love You…You're Perfect…Now Change, 42nd Street (National Tour), Hairspray (National Tour), Les Miserables, Cats, Miss Saigon, The Will Rogers Follies, Fiddler On The Roof, Beauty And The Beast, and A Chorus Line. His arrangements are frequently heard in concerts, cabarets and recordings across the world, and his work is continually performed at distinguished New York City venues: Ars Nova, Joe's Pub, The Duplex, and The Knitting Factory. Brett served as Music Director for Broadway In South Africa, Broadway Under The Stars in Sonoma, and the National Tour of Scooby-Doo Live!, produced by Warner Bros/Life Like Touring. He is also Vocal Director for Royal Caribbean Productions.
A faculty member at Marymount Manhattan College, Brett resides in New York City, where he enjoys vocal coaching some of Broadway's most gifted stars, songwriting, and teaching musical theatre workshops. He is the founder of Broadway Playground, a place for artists of all levels to explore their craft while "playing" in a creative learning environment. Brett is a proud member of ASCAP, The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.
